Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who has a injury concern, will be under the observation of the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) medical wing, said a press release from the BCB.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan felt discomfort near his left quadriceps while batting during the World Cup match against New Zealand in Chennai on Friday.

An MRI was performed of the affected area following the match.

“The player felt uncomfortable in the left quadriceps region when he was batting. He later fielded and completed his full quota of ten overs. He had an MRI scan done after the game and we will continue to observe his fitness for the coming matches. We will clinically assess his day-to-day progress and take measures accordingly.” National Team Physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said.

Along with Shakib, the team has reached to Pune from Chennai on Saturday ahead of their next match against hosts India on October 19.

The BCB said in a statement that he had an MRI scan but did not reveal the extent of the problem.

“He had an MRI scan done after the game, and we will continue to observe his fitness for the coming matches,” team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said in a BCB statement.

“We will clinically assess his day-to-day progress and take measures accordingly.”

Bangladesh will play host India in its next match in Pune on Thursday.

Bangladesh started its World Cup campaign with a win against Afghanistan on October 7 but lost its next two matches against England and New Zealand.
