‘Bau Hen’ rearing makes women self-reliant in Chuadanga

A total of 25 housewives have engaged themselves by rearing `meat producing hens’ (so called `Bau Hen’) to be self-reliant at village Sultanpur in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga district. Now they are helping financially to the family. 

According to sources, of the total housewives, each of them has been rearing 150 meat producing hens (so called Bau Hen) at the house for 43 days.    The sources added, about tk. 40,000 are spent to rear the hens for 43 days, where these are sold at tk. 25,000.  So about tk. 15,000 are made profit from the hens after rearing 43 days. 

It is learnt, the programme has been introduced at the village under the finance of PKSF and assistance of Wave Foundation, Chuadanga. The foundation identified 25 housewives of the village to take under the programme in December 18, 2023 and trained them on rearing of hens.  Rohima Begum of the village said, about tk. 24,000 are spent to rear the hens for 150 hens. It was calculated that she have made over tk. 13,500 profit to sell these.   

Chandana Khatun of the same village stated, her 18 hens were killed in different diseases. To sell rest hens she made profit at tk. 7,000. The housewives of the hens rearing said, they are happy for earing money and for helping families financially through the project.  

Dr. Mohammad Ehteshamul Hoque, Livestock Officer of Wave Foundation said, per hen weight is about 1 kg to rear 43 days. So it is profitable than other hens.
