Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) celebrated its 66th founding anniversary with a series of colourful programmes on the campus.
The day's programme began with the hoisting of the national flag and the release of pigeons at the university helipad. Earlier, at around 10am, a colourful rally led by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan started from in front of the administrative building.
The rally passed through important roads on the campus and ended at the helipad after passing by the Vice-Chancellor's residence. The anniversary was formally inaugurated there with the release of pigeons and balloons.
Following the inauguration, a tree plantation programme was held near the helipad. Later, fish fry were released into the Brahmaputra River near the Vice-Chancellor's residence. Tree plantation programmes were also organised at the university's residential halls.
As part of the day's programmes, special prayers were offered at mosques and other places of worship on the campus in the afternoon, seeking the university's continued development and prosperity.
University Registrar Agriculturist Dr Md Helal Uddin, Student Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Md Shahidul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Prof Dr GM Mujibur Rahman, Higher Education and Research Committee Coordinator Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam, BAU Research System (BAURES) Director and Sonali Dal President Prof Dr Md Hammadur Rahman, Proctor Prof Dr Md Abdul Alim, Associate Student Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Mohammad Saifullah and members of the proctorial team were, among others, present at the programmes.
Teachers, students, officers and employees from different departments also participated in the rally.
Prof Dr Md Shahidul Haque, chairman of the organising committee, said research requires at least five years of sustained efforts to achieve success. Technologies that Bangladesh may need in the next 15 to 20 years should be identified now, and work should begin on developing them.
Speaking as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan said around 61,699 former students of BAU are currently making significant contributions in different fields at home and abroad. Foreign students who graduated from the university are also playing important roles in their respective countries.
“BAU graduates are efficiently serving in various professions, including the police, peacekeeping missions, administration, teaching and research,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
He stressed the need to bring the university's alumni, now spread across different parts of the country and the world, under a common platform. The university's achievements were the result of the sincere efforts of its teachers, researchers, officers and employees.
