Batters responsible for embarrassing defeat

As ‘morning shows the day’ Tigers’ first innings performance also tipped off what the fate they were going to face in the first Test, as the West Indian bowlers dfrafted the ultimate result with bowling out the visitors just for 103 runs.

It was not at all expected or none of the Bangladesh cricket fans or any of the expertise could think that the Tigers would yield on that way to a half strength West Indies team when most of their players have a little experiences playing the Test cricket.

But the batters are responsible for the embarrassing defeat, as the bowlers did a great job getting the West Indies all out in the first innings for 265 runs and they (batters) failed to capitalize the advantage.

It was also another humiliating defeat of Tigers at this ground (Sir Vivian Richard Stadium, North Sound, Antigua) and looks it is the recurrence the scenario of four years back when Bangladesh suffered innings defeat after being all out for their record lowest of 43 runs in the first innings.

This time, might be the Tigers avoid the innings defeat but went down by seven wickets after playing three days and 40 minutes.

It is a long period the Tigers batters can’t get out from their batting shambles when it was started from January in New Zealand at Hagley Oval when the Tigers were bundled out for 126 in their first innings and ultimatley suffered innings defeat in the second Test. Though they began the two-match series with a convincing eight wickets victory over the Black Caps in the first Test at Christchurch, could not carry out the momentum.

From the Hagley Ovals, New Zealand to Sir Vivian Richard Stadium, North Sound, Antigua Bangladesh batters constantly displaying their dismal show.

After a mixed experiences tour of New Zealand (two match seies was drawn 1-1), Tigers batters ran through a nightmare series in South Africa when they were all out for 53 and 80 runs both in the second innings of the first and second Test respectively.

Then at home ground they also demonstrated very disappointing performances against Sri Lanka in their second innings of second Test following some impressive batting display (on the battting friendly pitch) at the Jahur Ahmed Stadium, Chottagram in the first Test.

At the Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh were all out for only 169 runs and suffered 10 wickets defeat and lost the two-match series by 1-0.

Mominul, who has led the side in the longest format since October 2019 was being weighed down by the pressures of captaincy before the ongoing series against West indies but yet to get rid of the odd times as he could not score any double digit in the last nine innings.

Not only Mominul, batters Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Nazmul Hossain Hossain Shanto, Mahmudul Hassan Joy are also in the failures list, who had no consistency and combinedly responsible for recent team’s disaster.
