UNB, Barishal: Academic activities at Barishal Nursing College remained halted for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday as students staged demonstrations for the dismissal of three teachers for their alleged involvement in attacking students.
The students gathered in front of the academic building around 10am, covering their eyes and faces with black clothes to symbolise their protests.
They called for the immediate removal of the three teachers -- Ali Azgar, Said Hossain Roni, and Farida Begum -- and the withdrawal of the existing class schedule.
They urged the administration to issue a new timetable based on student opinions.
As part of the ongoing demonstrations, the students boycotted clinical and lab practices, as well as classroom sessions for the past four days.
The protesters said the movement began after an attack on May 6 when outsiders were brought in to assault students participating in a previous demonstration.
Despite filing complaints against the teachers involved, no action has been taken over the past four months.
Fazle Rabbi, office secretary of the Student Nurses Welfare Organization at the college, warned that the protest would continue indefinitely unless their demands are met.
“We have launched continuous programmes until our demands are fulfilled. If the authorities fail to act, the movement will continue,” he said.
