Fortune Barishal will face off a tough challenge of Rangpur Riders to seal their place in the playoff stage before their last match when they will play their second last match of round robin league in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) cricket today.
In the day’s other match of the BPL, Comilla Victorians will take on Sylhet Strikers. Both the matches will take place at the Zahaur Ahmed Cowdhury Stadium, Chattogram with the first match scheduled for 1:30 pm and the second at 6:30pm.
Comilla Victorians, who almost confirmed their place in the playoff stage with obtaining 14 points from nine matches and closely following the leaders Rangpur Riders, are highly expected to join with Rangpur after winning today’s match against Sylhet.
Comilla, who crossed the initial stage through a bit ups and downs situation when they lost the first match to Duranto Dhaka, won the second against Fortune Barishal and after winning the third match against Sylhet, went down to Rangpur in the fourth match, after that the four times winners Victorians won their last five matches at a stretch.
However, it is very much predicted that the reigning champions Victorians would maintain their winning run over Sylhet, when in their first meeting on January 26 they defeated Sylhet Strikers by 52 runs.
Meanwhile, Sylhet Strikers no chances left for Sylhet Strikers to qualify to play in the knockout phase when they managed only six points from 10 matches.
In the day’s other match, it would be a different ball game for Fortune Barisal, as if they could win the match against the leaders Rangpur Riders then will level the points tally with the Riders obtaining 16 points.
But if Barisal would suffer defeat, then their chances to play in the playoff will be under threat and will have to wait for the last match when it would be turned into a must win situation for them against the mighty Victorians.
For Barishal it would be an inspiration today when in the first meeting they won the match by five wickets. So, there would be huge contest between Chattogram Challengers Khulna Tigers to make a room in the last fours.
