Many bouquets of flowers encircled him as a token of gratitude, which prompted a picture opportunity that the recently appointed Barisal University VC posted on Facebook. But after a week of going viral and sparking debate and criticism, the post was quickly taken down.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Badruzzaman Bhuiyan's recent appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Barisal University garnered widespread congratulations from the university community.

Sources within the Barisal University administration confirmed Professor Dr. Mohammad Badruzzaman Bhuiyan's appointment as Vice-Chancellor for a four-year term commencing on March 4. Prior to assuming this role, he served as the university's treasurer since April 19, 2022. Following the expiration of the previous Vice-Chancellor's term on November 8, 2023, Professor Bhuiyan had taken on the vice-chancellor's responsibilities. Before his tenure at Barisal University, he held a teaching position in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at Dhaka University.

In response to inquiries, Vice-Chancellor Badruzzaman Bhuiyan remarked, "Upon my appointment, I received many floral arrangements from students and faculty as gestures of goodwill. The photos taken were meant to capture these moments of appreciation. However, the subsequent promotion of these images on social media has led to misconceptions about the university's ethos, which is regrettable."

Insights from faculty and students revealed that Vice-Chancellor Bhuiyan initially shared the photo on his Facebook profile on March 5. However, due to the ensuing criticism, he opted to remove the post. Despite its removal, the image has been circulated by others, sparking ongoing discussions and critiques on social media platforms.

The photo depicted the Vice-Chancellor seated amidst numerous flower arrangements in his office, prompting varied reactions from viewers. Critical comments surfaced, with individuals questioning the appropriateness of such displays for a university leader. Conversely, some defended Vice-Chancellor Bhuiyan, highlighting his efforts to foster a positive atmosphere within the university.

Several faculty members voiced support for the Vice-Chancellor, emphasizing his dedication to enhancing the university's reputation and fostering a sense of trust among students and staff. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Baten Chowdhury, President of the University Teachers' Association, commended Vice-Chancellor Bhuiyan's commitment to excellence, stating, "Nothing is impossible with passion, determination, and effort. Professor Badruzzaman Bhuiyan exemplifies this ethos, and we extend our gratitude to him for his leadership."
