Barguna farmers to get stimuli for crop farming

A good number of small and marginal farmers in Amtali upazila of the district will get seeds and fertilizers free of cost as agriculture incentive under the incentive and rehabilitation programme for the cultivation of maize, mustard, sunflower, groundnut, mung bean and khesari dal in the Rabi season.

Upazila Parishad Chairman Bir Muktijoddha Advocate M A Quader Miah inaugurated the distribution function and handed over the seeds and fertilizers to some farmers as the chief guest, held in Amtali Upazila Parishad auditorium recently with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Ashraful Alam in the chair. A total of 7320 farmers will get the incentive, it is learnt.

Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Md Mojibur Rahman, Women Vice-Chairman Tamanna Afroz Moni, Upazila Agriculture Officer Krishibid Isha, three UP chairmen including Akhtaruzzaman Badal Khan, Borhan Uddin Masum Talukdara and Rafiqul Islam Ripon, spoke on the occasion.

To increase the interest of farmers in maize, mustard, sunflower, groundnut, mung bean and khesari dal cultivation, the amount of incentive support and the number of farmers have been increased significantly in the financial year 2023-24 in the district, upazila agriculture officer Isha said.

He said that each farmer will get maize, mustard, sunflower, groundnut, mung bean and khesari dal seeds, 10 kgs of Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer and five kgs of Muriate of potash (MOP) fertilizer free of cost among 7,320 farmers for Rabi cultivation on one bigha of land.

Rest of the seeds and fertilizers will be distributed very soon,  he said.
