A mobile court has fined a person Tk 3 lakh for illegally extracting sand from shankh river adjacent to kanu majhi ghat in South Barumchhara, pukuria union of Banshkhali Upazila, Chattogram.
A person named Shafiul Alam (45) was given this penalty in a mobile court run by the upazila administration last Thursday night. Banshkhali Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Omar Sani Akon conducted the drive.
During the drive, a drive was conducted on charges of illegal extraction of sand from the shankh river in Kanu Majhi Ghat area of Dakshin Barumchhara. At that time, evidence of Shafiul Alam's involvement in illegal sand extraction was found at the scene and he was arrested.
Later, he was fined Tk 3 lakh for violating Section 5(1) of the Sand and Soil Management Act, 2010 under Section 15(1) of the same act. The fine was immediately collected, according to the upazila administration.
The administration said that such campaigns against illegal sand extraction from the river will continue.
