As per the government’s digitisation initiatives, bank accounts are also modernising with digital platforms that offer hassle-free services to rural people including farmers.

In continuation, a good number of banks have recently started using modern software to provide better banking service to their users.

Taking advantage of this modernisation, users can transact online from any part of the country.

On Saturday, more than 1000 branches of Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) with around 1.5 crore of accounts have been digitised using online Core Banking Solution (CBS).

Terming the digitisation of banking activities as a timely initiative of the government, BKB Managing Director Md Ali Hossain Prodhania told Bangladesh Post, “The bank’s account holders including farmers of the country, will now be able to conduct banking activities, including deposit and withdrawal of money, from any branches across the country without paying any charge.”

“It is really a very significant development.... farmers will avail all types of banking services from any of our BKB branches without any additional charges,” he said.

In this context, he added that the BKB has already developed a separate app to ensure hassle-free services to its clients.

The country’s renowned Flora system Ltd, a local software developer consisting of all Bangladeshi engineers made the ‘Florabank’, the online Core Banking Solution (CBS) that marked the record of digitizing maximum numbers of bank branches across the country.

The software is an exceptional example that is capable of carrying our 6000 secured transactions per second, according to a joint research conducted by Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and a certification body of the United Kingdom (UK).

BKB is providing banking services like foreign remittance, treasury, ATM/POS, RTGS, smartphone financial service, internet banking and corporate through ‘Florabank’ software.

BKB has ensured digital service to thousands of marginalized people from district to union level through its 1038 branches.

As the government is agriculture-friendly, most of the modern facilities of banking, loan and other incentives reach the country’s farmers through this bank.
