Bangladesh Shipping Corporation General Manager (Administration) Mohammad Ashraful Amin said that a Bangladeshi-flagged ship with 26 others crews had been quarantined at the Hong Kong port following the death of a sailor infected with the corona virus.
It is learned that the ship 'MV Bangla Joyjatra' owned by BSC was unloading goods during the outbound. It had a total of 27 sailors.
BSc administration Ashraful Amin said Mokarram Hossain, 55, a general sailor of MV Banglar Joyjatra, died in his sleep on June 21 at the port.
He said that after collecting and testing his samples, the test came positive. The other sailors of the MV Joyjatra were then kept in isolation. Their samples have not yet been tested. "They have to be in isolation for 21 days."
The Bangladesh Embassy in Hong Kong, BSC and the local shipping agent of the ship are in regular contact with the matter and efforts are being made to bring the body of the sailor back to the country.
According to BSC sources, MV Banglar Joyjatra ship carries goods to different countries as a chartered ship. The ship left Chattogram on June 10. MV Banglar Joyjatra joined the Shipping Corporation’s fleet in 2018.
