Bangladesh U-19 succumb to 42-run loss against SL

Bangladesh U-19 suffered a 42-run defeat against Sri Lanka U-19 in the first ODI at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Friday.

In pursuit of 229, the visitors were dismissed for 186 runs in 46.2 overs. The openers Mahfijul Islam (9) and Iftikher Hossain (16) failed to make a good start as they were dismissed early on 31-2.

Bangladesh lost two more batters which put the side in further peril. Then Aich Mollah and Ariful Islam took control of the momentum by putting 70 runs for the fifth wicket stand.

Ariful departed being runout on 38 off 67 balls with two fours. Aich retained on the pitch and completed half-century with the lower orders.

Aich was dismissed on 86, he faced 93 balls hitting nine boundaries before returning. However, no other batters crossed the double digits.

Treveen Mathews scalped four wickets while Shevon Daniel took a couple of wickets for the hosts.

Earlier, batting first Sri Lanka posted 228-9 in 50 overs. Bangladesh bowler kept the batsman in trouble and took regular wickets throughout the game. Number three batter Pawan Pathiraja played the highest-run innings for the side, scored 67 off 88 hitting five boundaries. Pawan put on an 80 run partnership for the fifth wicket stand with Raveen de Silva (29). Yasiro Rodrigo played cameo innings of 25 off 15 featured three boundaries and a six.

Bangladesh pacer Ripon Mondol bagged three wickets conceding 59 runs, Ashikur Zaman took a couple of wickets for the side.

Golam Kibria was the most economical bowler for Bangladesh, he took one wicket leaking only 21 runs in seven overs.
