Published : 19 Mar 2024 09:42 PM

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka get ready to play their 25th Test match when both the teams have already announced their respective squad.

The first match of the two-match Test series will take place in Sylhet on March 22 and the second Test will take place in Chattogram from March 30.

Considering the previous record of their previous 24 Tests, being the hosts Bangladesh will start the series as underdogs and the visitors Sri Lankans will play as favourites.

Meanwhile, the Test matches are the part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

Bangladesh might be in a festive mood after winning the ODI series before to start their Test series against Sri Lanka.

But in their previous 24 Tests Bangladesh could taste only one win and drew only five matches.

Interestingly, Bangladesh played their first five Test matches against Sri Lanka at away ground in Sri Lanka and all the matches took place in Colombo.  Bangladesh and Sri Lanka started their bilateral Test in 2001 and played five Test matches in between 2001 to 2005 with one match in 2001, two matches in 2002 and two matches in 2005, all the matches were hosted by Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh suffered innings defeats in four matches out of first five Tests when in the third match they could avoid innings defeat.

In fact, Bangladesh suffered eight innings defeats in their last 24 Tests when Bangladesh could draw their 13th match in Galle after suffering 12 defeats in a row at home and away.

Bangladesh had their second draw in 2014 in Chattogram and that was their 14th match.

However, Bangladesh hosted Sri Lanka first time in 2006 and played the first match in Chattogram and second match in Bogra and suffered defeat by eight and 10 wickets respectively.

Meanwhile, in the recent five Test matches, Bangladesh suffered three defeats and could manage two draws.

So, Bangladesh are going to play their two-match Test series with an embarrassing record of only one win against 16 defeats and eight draws in 24 matches.

In their last Test match in 2022 at home ground (Mirpur) Bangladesh suffered 10 wickets defeat.

But in that match Bangladesh had a great outcome of highest 272 runs at  sixth wicket partnership between Litton Das and Mishfiqur

Rahim when both the batters score century.

Mushfiqur and Litton started the recovery when Bangladesh were struggling with losing five wickets for 24 runs. Mushfiqur Rahim was unbeaten with 175 runs and Litton scored 145 run.

Actually, the Tigers are going to play the series as underdogs when Sri Lanka will play as favourites with their almost same team, they had in last match.
