Bangladesh squad announced for U-19 Asia Cup

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the Under-19 team on Thursday ahead of the upcoming ACC U-19 Men's Asia Cup 2024. 

All-rounder Azizul Hakim Tamim named as the captain of the Under-19 team to lead in the ACC U-19 Men's Asia Cup to be held in UAE from November 29. 

Meanwhile, Kalam Siddiki Aleen was one of the two skippers during Bangladesh’s home series against the UAE, missed the cut due to team combination, said selector Ehsanul Haque Sijan, but the top-order batter will accompnay the team in the UAE. 

The team scheduled to leave for the tournament tomorrow (Sunday) when ahead of the 50-over event, they will have a pre-tournament camp and also play a warm-up match against India at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on November 26.

The defending champions of the tournament Bangladesh, who previously won the competition last year in the UAE, are in Group B along with Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Nepal. They will begin their campaign with taking on Afghanistan in one of the opening matches of the tournamnet on November 29 in Dubai ICC Academy Ground. 

Meanwhile, the 11th edition of the ACC Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 will kick off on November 29 in the UAE. Two venues, Dubai and Sharjah, will host the youth continental tournament.

The eight best under-19 teams from Asia will be in the hunt to claim the trophy. They will fight out over 15 matches to decide the winner.

Teams have been clubbed into two groups of four each. And they will face against their group opponents once.

After the group stage, the top two sides from both groups will qualify for the semi-finals. The ACC U-19 Asia Cup 2024 will conclude with the final on November 8.

Group A comprises of India, Pakistan, UAE and Japan. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals, scheduled on December 6 and the final will be held on December 8 in Dubai.

Bangladesh squad: Azizul Hakim Tamim (c) Zawad Abrar (vc), Rifat Beg, Samiun Basir Ratul, Debashish Sarker, Rizan Hossan, Mohammad Al Fahad, Iqbal Hasan Emon, Rafi Uzzaman, Farid Hasan, Maruf Mridha, Shihab James, Ashrafuzzaman Barenaya and Saad Islam.

Standbys: Kalam Siddiki Aleen (travelling reserve), Shahariar Ajmir, Yeasir Arafat and Sanjid Mozumder.
