Bangladesh has been ranked 101st in the happiness index out of 149 countries ahead of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. In the previous survey, Bangladesh was ranked 107th out of 153 countries. Bangladesh has advanced six notches in the ranking, according to the World Happiness Report 2021

Finland has been ranked the happiest country in the world for the fourth time in a row. The top spots were dominated by European countries.

According to the report, Iceland has secured second place in the list, followed by Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Afghanistan came in last in the list being world’s unhappiest country this year followed by Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Botswana.

The rankings of the world's happiest countries came from an analysis of data from surveys conducted in the 149 countries taken from 2018 to 2020 powered by the Gallup World Poll.

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar placed 140th, 106th, 130th, and 127th respectively in the list. The United States moved up from 18th to 14th place and the United Kingdom dropped from 13th to 18th.

This year, the data and information for the World Happiness Report were accumulated in a slightly different way due to the pandemic. The researchers were unable to complete face-to-face interviews in some countries and the main focus was given on the relationship between wellbeing and Covid-19.

The ranking remains strikingly similar to the previous year in most part of the report. The similarity is being looked at from a positive perspective. Some changes can be noticed in the top ten positions of the countries.

The report focuses on the effects of COVID-19 and how people all over the world have dealt with it. The report has been developed taking into account measures such as GDP, social support, personal freedom and levels of corruption to provide each country with a happiness score, which is an average of the past three years.

The epidemic has affected people's happiness to a large extent in the world. According to the report, in one-third of the 149 countries, negative emotions have increased significantly.
