In order to become a carbon-neutral economy, Bangladesh can show the path to other Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) countries. Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the head of CVF, our country should lead 48 other climate-vulnerable countries of this forum during the Prescient Biden’s Climate Suga Summit in April and the 26th climate conference at the end of this year.
To lead the other CVF countries successfully, we should undertake enhanced targets of carbon emission reduction under the NDC and also pursue other countries to make their NDCs progressive and affiliated to the Paris Treaty.

in the NDC process
As the current leader of the CVF countries, our country could play a critical role in taking a common position towards a carbon-neutral economy and could also create pressure on other countries for their faster response in carbon emission reduction.
We need to make sure that the people working at the root level are involved in the NDC process. If these groups are not involved, then it won’t be possible to develop a participatory NDC. High carbon-emitting nations should not have apathy in improving NDC, they should be the ones who should contribute more.
There is also a necessity to create awareness in a certain paradigm on climate risk in development planning, particularly for developing countries. This is not only because it is the only way to save people but also it is the only way to safeguard sustainable economic development. All in all, we should appeal to the development partners to assist the CVF generously as investing in climate today will safeguard a better tomorrow.
