Bangladesh has obtained the 37th position out of 145 countries considered for the annual Global Fire Power (GFP) index.

According to www.globalfirepower.com websites, as one of the most populous countries in the world, defence aggregate GlobalFirepower.com also ranks Bangladesh as a rising defence power relative to its region.

Bangladesh, which is regarded as the most rising Asian nation, holds a PowerIndex score of 0.5419 (a score of 0.0000 is considered 'perfect'), elevated three steps from the last year. It was at the 40th position with a score of 0.5871 in 2023.

The USA occupies the top position on the list of the GFP as usual while Russia, China, India and South Korea hold the top five positions. Among the Muslim countries, Turkey and Pakistan remain amongthe top ten countries, holding eighth and ninth positions respectively.

Bangladesh Army has a total of 1,63,000 active manpower while Bangladesh Navy and Air Force have 25,100 and 17,400 respectively, according to the GFP data.

For a country to showcase its national strength, firepower becomes an important denominator in international politics.

GFP is a globally recognized ranking system to understand the military rankings, status and development of countries. The Global Firepower 2023 ranks Bangladesh as the first paramilitary power and 12th "Powers on the Rise" in the world, a milestone achievement for a South Asian country only after India and Pakistan.

The GFP Index shows a country's conventional fighting capability measured by eight categorical groups such as financial, geographical, manpower, air-power, land forces, naval forces, natural resources, and logistics.
