Bangladesh need proper plan more than power hitting: Bijoy

Asia Cup is set to start on Saturday as Bangladesh to kick off their Asia Cup campaign against Afghanistan in Sharjah on Tuesday.

Now the final preparation of the team is going on. Bangladesh batter Anamul Haque Bijoy gave a message of hope on Saturday for the fans from that preparation at the ICC Academy ground in Dubai.

Tigers have regret that there is no power hitter in the Bangladesh squad. However, Bijoy feels that the Bangladesh team needs a better game plan than a power hitting. Anamul insisted that everyone in the side has the ability to hit sixes and fours.

“No one can say that the players here can’t hit sixes and fours or that the players don’t have any qualities. Those who came into the national squad could only come this far after giving their 100 per cent. I think everyone has the quality to hit sixes and fours and demonstrate power-hitting in the matches,” Anamul said in a video message to the BCB on Friday.

“I have been playing BPL for almost 10 years, I have also played for Bangladesh. I think game planning is more important than power hitting with our talent and hard work. No one can say that players in the team can’t hit four-sixes or not capable. You have to play in the Bangladesh team with 100% ability,” Bijoy said in a video message after the second practice session at the ICC Academy ground,

“I think it is more about planning as to which bowler we need to pick, which bowler needs to be dealt with by rotating the strike and when to go on the offense and when not to,” Anamul added.

Anamul also insisted that almost every batter in the Tigers’ line-up has the ability to hit the ball for boundaries.

“They (batters) should be given their own time. Every player has the ability to hit a four-six if they try after settle. I don’t think the cricketers have anything to be disappointed” he added.

“If you consider the line-up then there are 8-10 batters in the side, all of whom can hit the ball more or less. It is just that the players need some time they need to face four, five or 10 balls and then they can hit fours and sixes by executing after that. So, everyone has the ability to hit fours and sixes.”

Bijoy had returned to the team after a long time in all three editions. However, he did not do well in the T20I series against West Indies and Zimbabwe. This T20I format Asia Cup is a big opportunity for him now.

Bijoy is practicing to give the Bangladesh team a good start. The 29-year-old batter shared his thoughts ahead of Asia Cup.

“Since the Asia Cup is a big stage, I will try to give the team an effective innings. I feel lucky. I want to give a good start of the innings. Miraz, Taskin, Sakib bhai, Mushfiq bhai, Afif, everyone has helped me a lot,” “A good score in the top order will also benefit them. Again, if the middle order is good it will be good for the lower middle order batter. A good total will give a boost to the bowlers. I hope I can give a great start, I am practicing like that,” Bijoy said.
