The two south Asian nations--Bangladesh and India have expressed fresh vow to work together in order to achieve the desired benefit for them and bring peace and prosperity in the region as a whole.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and India Prime Minister Narendra Modi came up with these promises in a joint statement after bilateral talks between them and witnessing exchange of seven MoUs signed between the two countries at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi of India on Tuesday.

Besides, issues relating to connectivity, trade and commerce, investment, water resources management, security, border and lines of credit also came for discussion during the closed-door talks between the two premiers. Sheikh Hasina addressed bilateral relations between the two countries as role model for neighbourhood diplomacy hoping all the outstanding issues including Teesta Water Sharing Treaty would be signed soon.

Narendra said India would continue to walk step by step with Bangladesh to help it achieve the desired progress, stability and prosperity. He also stressed on cooperation against terrorism and fundamentalism.

We believe that the friendship and fraternity

between Bangladesh and India will be further

strengthened in the days to come

Referring to the signing MoU on Kushiara River between the two countries, Sheikh Hasina said all the issues like the water sharing of 54 common rivers that included the Teesta water sharing treaty would also be resolved.

Needless to say, Sheikh Hasina’s four-day state tour to India has attained a big achievement through signing a MoU on withdrawal of Kushiara river water by Bangladesh under the Upper Surma-Kushiara project.

Since Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971, the two countries shared history and culture, mutual trust and respect, longstanding friendship and continued cooperation. The two countries also resolved many outstanding issues in the spirit of friendship and cooperation. It is clear to all that whatever Bangladesh has realised from India that was achieved by the Awami League government. So, we express hope for all outstanding issues, including signing of the Teesta Water Sharing Treaty will be solved immediately. Apart from these, the both countries will have to make the two economies stronger by taking lessons from the Covid pandemic and recent global developments.

We believe the relationship between the two countries is tested and “written with blood” and it has reached a new height under the dynamic leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter Sheikh Hasina. Therefore, we believe that the friendship and fraternity between Bangladesh and India will be further strengthened in the days to come.
