Bangladesh-India trade shut for two days

Import -Export trade between the two countries has been suspended for the last two days through Benapole port.

Imports -Exports through Benapole port have been suspended due to public holidays on the eve of Christmas, a public holiday and Christian holiday, the main religious festival of Christians.

Import-export trade will resume from Sunday morning.

Kartik Chandra, general secretary of the C&F Agent Staff Welfare Association in India, said that 6,000 goods loaded truck were stuck on the Petrapole Port in India due to the two-day suspension of import-export.

Import- export between India and Bangladesh through Benapole-Petrapole port has been suspended on Saturday on the occasion of the main religious festival of Christians.

However, import-export will resume from Sunday morning.

Raju Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Benapole checkpost immigration, said:

Even though import-export has been suspended, passengers travel between the two countries is normal. Total 450 passengers have traveled since morning.

Benapole Customs Commissioner Md. Azizur Rahman said, Imports- Exports through Benapole-Petrapole port have been suspended due to Friday being a public holiday and today being a Christian holiday. Import-export activities will resume from Sunday.
