Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud has said that the visit of Indian journalists to Bangladesh will not only elevate the relations between the two countries to a new height, but will also play a very positive role in deepening the spiritual relations between people.

He said, “Now the houses can no longer be seen from the sky, literally the houses have disappeared, this is the changed Bangladesh.  The reason behind our change is the good relations we have with our neighbouring country India over the past 14 years, which has been elevated to new heights under the leadership of Prime Minister Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina and Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi.  That deep relationship has played an important role in our development journey.”

The minister said these in the chief guest's speech at the Chattogram Press Club on Sunday with 25 journalists from Kolkata, India and 9 senior journalists from Assam and Guwahati visiting Bangladesh.  Chattogram Press Club organized this exchange meeting.

Earlier, the Information Minister visited the under-construction Bangabandhu Tunnel under the Karnaphuli River with Indian journalists and the European Club at the foot of the hill, where Pritilata Waddedar, one of the pioneers of the anti-British movement, committed suicide. Chattogram Press Club President Salahuddin Mohammad Raza presided over and Joint Secretary Shahidullah Shahriar moderated the program as special guests of Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman, Kolkata Press Club President Snehashish Sur, General Secretary Kingsuke Pramanik, Senior Journalist of Assam Manoj Kumar Goswami.

Debdulal Bhowmik, general secretary of Chittagong Press Club, gave a welcome speech at the exchange meeting.  Former President of the Press Club Ali Abbas, Vice President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Shahidul Alam, President of Chattogram Journalists Union Tapan Chakraborty General Secretary M Shamsul Islam, Senior Vice President of Chattogram Press Club Chowdhury Farid spoke on the occasion. Dr. Hasan Mahmud said, we are citizens of two countries, but we grew up in the same river basin.  A barbed wire fence could not divide our bond.  A barbed wire fence could not divide our culture, heritage, language, our love. He said, for thousands of years, this spiritual relationship of ours has been united by blood ties in the year seventy one.  When Indian army shed blood along with our Mukti Bahini.  Along with our suffering, the people of India have also accepted the suffering.  More than one crore people have taken refuge in India.  No matter how many barbed wire fences, or any other laws, this bond of heart written in blood can never be broken.

He said that the arrival of Indian journalists to Bangladesh, visiting various places and witnessing the development activities of Bangladesh, Bangladesh has changed under the leadership of leader Sheikh Hasina, today the boy who went abroad 14 years ago does not recognize his own city, does not recognize his own village.

He said, journalists open the third eye of the society, awaken people's spiritual food, uncover the undiscovered.  Journalists play a role in steering the society and the state in the right direction.  From here, when you pick up a pen or report on television, the relationship between the two countries will deepen.  The people of India will know the story of the change of our country, the people of the world will know it.

He said, Bangladesh is a small country.  We are third in freshwater fish production, fourth in vegetable production, third in rice production, seventh in potato production.  But it is 92nd in the world in terms of volume.  Land of storms and floods.  The impact of climate change is a constant here.  But today, under the leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter, leader Sheikh Hasina, our beloved motherland is advancing at an unstoppable pace on the development stage, overcoming all obstacles and uprooting all obstacles.

The whole world today appreciates Bangladesh.  But the opposition politicians of our country neither see nor listen.

They went over the flyover and said there was no development.  Crossing the Padma Bridge and speaking against the government, nothing happened.  This is our misfortune.
