‘Bangladesh best place in SA for foreign investment’

Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tajul Islam has called upon local and foreign investors to invest in Bangladesh claiming to be the best place in South Asia for investment that has endless potential.

The minister also said that the unprecedented development achieved is a wonder in itself.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized by the Department of Local Government and Bangladesh Pavilion at Dubai Expo-2020 in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.

“Bangladesh has fully come under electricity. Emergency services including information technology and internet and water have been provided to the villages. One hundred economic zones are being built,” he said.

Foreign investors can easily benefit by investing in these areas. He also said that the government of Bangladesh has taken groundbreaking steps to create a conducive environment for trade and commerce for foreigners and increase investment.

Explaining the economic changes that will come to the country through the implementation of mega projects including Padma Bridge, Karnafuli Tunnel and Metrorail, the minister said, “Although Bangabandhu could not build the Sonar Bengal of his dreams, his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is creating a roadmap of that dream.”

He further said that Bangladesh has achieved unprecedented success in many areas including rural infrastructure development, water and sanitation, health, education, agriculture. There are many differences between the former Bangladesh and the present Bangladesh. Bangladesh has become known all over the world as a role model for development.

The LGRD minister said, “The government has been working tirelessly for the implementation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's vision to provide all the civic services and all modern facilities in the city. Electricity, water and sanitation services have already been provided to every household. All the facilities will be made accessible to the people of the village in phases.”

Bangladesh Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Mohammad Abu Zafar was present as the special guest at the function presided over by Senior Secretary, Local Government Department, Helal Uddin Ahmed.
