‘Bangladesh, a role model in climate change actions’

Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin has said that Bangladesh is a role model of the world in terms of the actions taken to mitigate negative impact of climate change.

He also said, “The government is giving the highest priority to lessen the impact of climate change and sincere efforts are being made to make the country ‘clean and green’ to continue the development journey of the country. Bangladesh has attracted the attention of the world through various successful climate adaptation activities through its self-financed Climate Change Trust Fund.”  The Minister came up with the assertion while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled 'Knowledge Dissemination and Sustainability Workshop on Integrating Community Based Adaptation Into Effortation and Refereement' organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change at Pan Pacific Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka on Sunday, said a press release issued by the ministry.

The Environment Minister said the Integrating Community Based Adaptation into Afforestation and Reforestation programmes in Bangladesh (ICBAAR), implemented by the Forest Department is one of the most successful adaptation projects in South Asia. Under this project, 3FV (Forest, Fruit, Fish, Vegetables) models and other innovative adventure activities, implemented in 8 upazilas of 5 coastal districts of the country have been appreciated internationally.  Under the ICBAAR project, coastal utilitarian, climate tolerant, innovative, natural and eco-based livelihood activities have been conducted over the past four years by analyzing experiments, expert opinions and results.  These activities have created and conserved coastal green belts with the utmost importance on mitigating the effects of climate change with the participation and management of local coastal communities, the Minister said. 

Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ziaul Hasan NDC presided over the workshop while, Deputy Minister of the ministry Begum Habibun Nahar, Additional Secretary and National Director of the Project Mahmud Hasan, Additional Secretary Ahmed Shamim Al Razi and others were present as special guests. Two books were launched during the workshop.
