Bangamata’s 91st birth anniversary observed in Narail

The 91st birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Sunday in Narail district with due respect.

Bangladesh Mohila Awami League (AL), the women wing of Bangladesh Awami League, local district administration and other affiliated bodies of AL have arranged several programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.

On the occasion, a discussion meeting on "Life and works of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib" was held at 10 am followed by a doa mahfil and cake cutting at the district AL office in old bus terminal area maintaining social distancing and personal hygiene amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Narail Municipality Mayor and district AL vice-president Anjuman Ara addressed the discussion as the chief guest with President of Narail district Mahila Awami League Rabeya Yusuf in the chair.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by Secretary of Mahila Awami League District Committee and Vice-Chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad Ismat Ara, Vice-President of Mahila Awami League District Committee Gulshan Ara, Member of Zila Parishad and Mahila Awami League Leader Advocate Raushan Ara Kabir Lily, Joint secretary of Mahila Awami League and Member of Zila Parishad Nazneen Sultana Rozy, Organising secretary of Mahila Awami League District Committee Nasrin Akter.

 Deputy Commissioner Md. Habibur Rahman distributed sewing machines to the indigent women at the DC conference room here marking Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib’s 91st birth anniversary.

 Besides, special prayers were also held at all religious institutions seeking divine blessings and eternal peace for the departed soul of Bangamata.

Born on August 8 in 1930 at Tungipara village in Gopalganj, she was killed brutally by the assassins of Father of the Nation on August 15 in 1975.
