The nation witnessed a rare event marking the 101st birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day-2021 today  (Wednesday) just nine days ahead of the 50th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh on March 26.

The theme of this year’s birthday of Bangabandhu and National Children’s Day is “Bangabandhur Janmadin, Shishur Ridoy Hok Rangin”.

We think the people will celebrate the day maintaining health guidelines against coronavirus.

On his birthday, we also recall with deep gratitude the greatest Bangalee of all times, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose undisputed leadership we have earned our coveted independence on December 16 in 1971.

We believe the nation would stay

awake forever with its founder’s

ideology and uphold the flag given by him

On March 17 in 1920 Sheikh Mujib alias Khoka was born in a respectable Muslim family at Tungipara village of the then Gopalganj sub-division, now district, as the third among six children of Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and Saira Khatun.

Nobody could think that this boy Khoka would become the architect of independent Bangladesh and the greatest Bangalee of all times as well.

Since Khoka’s (Bangabandhu) student life at Gopalganj Missionary School his public life started as a protester against any sort of misrule, repression and oppression.

And he struggled throughout his life in a bid to establish people’s economic emancipation, end economic disparity and ensure injustice.

And he continued till his last breath on the fateful dawn of August 15 in 1975  when he along with most of his family members were brutally assassinated by a group of disgruntled army officers at his residence at Dhanmondi, Road No 32 in the capital Dhaka.

This year’s celebration is the most important and very significant one in our lifetime as the heads of the state and heads of the government of different countries will be present at the events as guests of honour.

Last year the government declared the period from March 17, 2020 to March 26, 2021 as the ‘Mujib Year’ marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.

The countdown for Mujib Year began on January 10 last year coinciding with Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day in 1972, after nine months of captivity in Pakistan.

But many programmes of the Mujib Year were cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic.

We believe the nation would stay awake forever with its founder’s ideology and uphold the flag given by him.
