‘Bangabandhu had planned cooperative-based agro farms’

A discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony on the occasion of National Cooperative Day was held at Khulna Officers Club auditorium on Saturday morning. 

Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleq was the chief guest on the occasion. The theme of the day was ’Bangabandhu's philosophy, development in cooperatives’.

The chief guest in his speech said that the destiny of helpless and poor people should be changed by strengthening the cooperative movement. Therefore, the cooperative society needs to be made more dynamic, developed and strengthened. 

He said the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave importance to cooperatives. He also started its activities with a plan to build a cooperative based agricultural farm. After the assassination of Bangabandhu, the programme did not move forward, he added.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman Talukder presided over the function while Additional Divisional Commissioner (Overall) Md Abdur Rashid and District Bar Association President Advocate Md Saiful Islam spoke as special guests. Advocate Sheikh Nazmul Hossain, President of District Cooperative Union welcomed the guests while, General Secretary of the union Md Shahjahan Jamaddar and representatives of various cooperative societies spoke on the occasion.

At the ceremony, the city mayor handed over crests and certificates among five best cooperative societies and five best cooperatives.
