‘Bangabandhu had devoted his entire life to people’

Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud has said Bangabandhu had devoted his entire life to the people aiming at building a developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ for their development and welfare.

“The whole life of Bangabandhu was full of patriotism, love and honesty. Love for Bangabandhu can be manifested only if we can love the country, become honest and love the people,” he said.

Alim was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion arranged marking the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day-2021 at a local hotel in Rangpur on Tuesday evening.

Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee organised the event followed by a doa mahfil and offering special munajat seeking divine blessing for the departed souls of Bangabandhu and most of his family members assassinated on August 15, 1975. The RpMP Chief said, “Bangabandhu said my strength is to trust people more and my weakness is to trust people more.”

From a young age, Bangabandhu provided foods, rappers and other goods to the people and lastly embraced martyrdom through supreme sacrifice by giving his own blood for the people, he said.

“Bangabandhu's able daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working ceaselessly to realise the cherished dream of Father of the Nation through building developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ to make the hard-earned independence meaningful for every citizen,” he said.

Under the Premier’s leadership, the Padma Bridge, Metro Rail and long runways of Cox's Bazar Airport are being constructed in the country where a peaceful environment prevails and advancement of the nation continues despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

“If anyone wants to create anarchy in the peaceful environment of the country, they will be severely repressed,” the RpMP Chief cautioned.

President of Rangpur Metropolitan Community Policing Committee and former Rangpur District Unit Commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad freedom fighter Mosaddek Hossain Bablu presided over the event.

Rangpur District Awami League Vice-president Rozy Rahman and President of Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rezaul Islam Milon spoke.

Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Begum Rokeya Government College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam presented an essay on the biography, life and works of Bangabandhu.

Additional Commissioner of Police of RpMP Mehedul Karim, its Deputy Commissioner of Police Mahidul Islam, Abu Maruf Hossain, Abu Bakkar Siddique, Kazi Muttaki Ibnu Minan and other community policing officials were present.
