Awami League Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman on Thursday said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born to free our people from centuries of persecution of British and Pakistani regimes. “Bangabandhu and Bangladesh are same. He sacrificed his personal happiness to devote his life to ensuring people’s rights.” He added.

He made this remark while addressing as the chief guest at the discussion programme titled ‘Bangabandhu in our thoughts’ organized by Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) at Dhaka University Mozaffar Ahmed auditorium on Thursday evening.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and students transport union jointly organised the programme. DUCSU students transport secretary Shams E Noman was in chair while Member of Parliament and Awami league leader Asim Kumar Ukil, DU VC professor Akhtaruzzaman, BCL central president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon and general secretary addressed the programme.

BCL central president Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon called youths to know about Bangabandhu and spread across the nation and work to implement his dreams to make ‘Sonar Bangla’.

Shovon said, " Bangabandhu spent his whole life for nation's freedom but unfortunately a group of wayward people, linked with BNP's founder Ziaur Rahman and Jamaat e Islami killed Bangabandhu after only four years of independence.”  "But martyred Bangabandhu is stronger than alive Bangabandhu. Killers can kill  Bangabandhu but today we as a nation firmly believe in and practice Bangabandhu's ideals," Shovon said.

Awami league Leader MP Asim Kumar Ukil said, “When our country was moving forward under the charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at that time defeated anti liberation forces killed him. We saw that a section of political leaders who worked alongside Bangabandhu, had joined Mushtaq’s government.”

“Perpetrators often tried to choke our democracy and progress but under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina we are moving forward towards a prosperous and modern country. If we get united no one can defeat us. I urge you to get united to implement Bangabandhu’s incomplete dream,” Asim Kumer said. DUCSU cultural secretary Asif Talukder said, "Anti-liberation forces killed Bangabandhu along with  democracy. They killed our Father of the Nation after their defeat at liberation war but they failed to kill his ideology. Bangladesh is going forward under the firm leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina. "
