Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tajul Islam said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had endured imprisonment, torture and humiliation all his life but he did not compromise with injustice in realizing the rights of Bengalis.

He was speaking at a discussion on ' Victory Day-2021' organized by Local Government Department at Auditorium of Local Government Engineering Department in Agargaon on Wednesday.

The Minister said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has sacrificed his life for the rights of the Bengalis by liberating them from the tyranny, oppression, torture and all forms of discrimination of Pakistan. Through his historic speech on March 7, he united the whole nation and made the country independent. He himself was oppressed, tortured and humiliated but did not compromise even in the face of death for the realization of human rights.

He said if Bangabandhu had survived, the country would have become a developed country by the year 2000. But by killing Bangabandhu on 15th August, the dream of Bangladesh has been destroyed. The ghosts of Pakistan and those who have exploited 25 years of rule have started conspiring against the country again. No matter how many conspiracies are hatched, by 2041, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the country will become the golden Bengal of advanced and prosperous Bangabandhu, he said.

Mentioning that bangladesh’s per capita income is higher than that of many neighboring countries including Pakistan, India and Nepal, Minister Md Tajul Islam said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made unprecedented development in all sectors including electricity, gas, communication, education and health, agriculture. Bengalis are no longer a fakir-miskin nation. Today, Bangladesh has been established as a dignified nation in the world and has become a role model for development.

The minister said if the Padma Bridge is opened, many industries will be created in southern sector of the country. Economic zones are being set up all over the country. If these are introduced, millions of jobs will be created. Economic activities will change. The country will reach the desired goal.

Referring to the BNP's tenure, the minister said that when they were in power, they used to go door-to-door with world consortiums and development partners for the country's budget money. Now the budget is being prepared with the country's own money. The development partners in various development projects are being selected considering the interest of the country.

Dhaka WASA Managing Director Taksim A Khan, LGED Chief Engineer Abdur Rashid Khan, Additional Secretary Kazi Ashraf Uddin and Director General of the National Institute of Local Government Saleh Ahmed Mozaffar spoke on the occasion. Senior officials of the Local Government Department and various departments under it were present on the occasion.

Earlier, Md Tajul Islam inaugurated the victory fair organized by LGED and visited the stall.

Later, the Minister enjoyed a cultural program organized on the occasion of Great Victory Day-2021, the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of independence.
