Independent Bangladesh and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are two inseparable entities.  The victory of the Bengali nation in 1971 is a rare event in the history of the world. The great hero of this victory was Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  Under the leadership of which the Bengali nation has united and established an independent-sovereign Bangladesh in the world court through armed struggle.

Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Shirin Akhtar made this assertion at a discussion meeting on the occasion of Great Victory Day on Thursday.

CU Vice-Chancellor said that if Bangabandhu had not been defeated after independence, Bangladesh would have become a developed country in the world long ago.  Despite all this, Bangladesh is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.  He called upon all to play a united role under the leadership of the Prime Minister in building a non-communal, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh of Bangabandhu so that no evil force could stop it.

Chittagong University authorities have celebrated the golden jubilee of victory through various programs.  From the evening of 15 December all the important buildings and installations of the University were arranged.  Victory Day celebrations began on the night of December 15 with the playing of the bugle and the performance of the national anthem.

As part of the program, after the Fajr prayers on December 16, prayers were offered for the martyrs of the liberation war in all the mosques of the university.  The national flag was hoisted at the university buildings in the morning.  At 10 am, the CU Vice-Chancellor, various departments and concerned organizations paid homage to the martyrs with flowers at the University Independence Memorial Sculpture. Later, flowers were laid at the portraits of Vijay Rally and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  A discussion meeting on the golden jubilee of victory was held at Jarultala of CU.  Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shirin Akhter presided over the discussion.
