Bandarban travel ban extended again

Bandarban Correspondent: The temporary ban on the travel of tourists in Ruma, Rowangchhari and Thanchi upazilas of Bandarban has been extended till November 16.

The matter was informed in a public notice signed by District Magistrate Yasmin Parveen Tibriji on Saturday.

It is known from the administration sources that the joint force's anti-militant and anti-terror operation is being conducted in the hilly areas bordering Ruma-Roangchhari and Thanchi upazilas of the district. In view of the overall safety of tourists, a temporary ban was imposed on local and foreign tourists from traveling to four upazilas of the district earlier. In the November 12 circular, the ban on local and foreign tourists traveling to Rowangchhari, Ruma and Thanchi upazilas has been maintained until November 16.

Earlier, the local administration banned the travel of Ruma-Roangchhari upazila for an indefinite period from the evening of September 17, and banned the travel of four upazilas including Alikadam-Thanchi from the evening of October 23 to October 30. Later it was extended until November 8. On Saturday, the ban was extended by 4 days and it has been informed that the ban will remain in force until November 16.

According to the Bandarban district administration, the temporary ban on the travel of tourists in Ruma, Rowangchhari and Thanchi upazilas has been extended until November 16, considering the overall safety of tourists.It should be noted that this time the ban on tourist travel in three upazilas of Bandarban district has been extended for the 5th time by the district administration. Meanwhile, due to the ban on tourist travel even during the tourist season, tourism-related businessmen have expressed fear of losing crores of Tk.
