Bail has been granted to 42 HSC examinees, who were arrested in various cases in connection with the recent violence centring the anti-discrimination student movement.
On Friday, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka granted bail to 37 examinees in 30 different cases, while the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court gave the bail order to five others in four different cases.
Following a decision by the Ministry of Law, the courts were assigned with the responsibility to hear special bail petitions even on Friday.
The hearings took place at 3:30 PM.
On Thursday night, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that if any of those arrested in connection with the recent violent incidents were current HSC examinees, they would be provided with legal assistances for bail if they appeal with their admit cards and relevant documents.
The Ministry of Education also appointed lawyers on Thursday to assist the HSC examinees. On that day, three HSC examinees were granted bail by the Dhaka court.
Meanwhile, it has been learned that a decision has been made to consider the bail of students arrested in
recent days to quell the ongoing movement.
A press release from the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the government would provide legal assistance for the bail of students arrested in recent incidents if there are no serious charges against them.
A Dhaka judge, who requested anonymity, told the Bangladesh Post that if students currently studying are arrested and present the necessary documents, they will be granted bail.
