RAB-7 has arrested another absconding accused in the Baghaichhari gang rape case in Rangamati.
Jishu Chowdhury (27) was arrested from Andarkilla area of Rajapur Lane under Kotwali police station on Friday morning. Jishu Chowdhury is the son of Sameer Chowdhury of Karengatali Bazar area of Baghaichhari.
Confirming the arrest, RAB-7 Commander Lt. Col. MA Yusuf said on Saturday that on July 15, the accused Biplab Barua called the victim out of the house saying that he had an urgent talk with the victim due to previous enmity. Later, as the victim did not return home, the victim's mother searched around. The victim came home the next day and said that after accused Biplab Barua called her outside the house, some miscreants including accused Jishu Chowdhury grabbed her face and took her to a residential house in Barua under Baghaichhari police station. He was forcibly gang-raped there. The victim's mother filed a case against 5 people at Baghaichhari police station. Out of the 5 accused, 2 are Buddhists, 1 are Hindus and 2 are Muslims.
Later, RAB-7 Chattogram continued intelligence surveillance with the aim of arresting the named accused in the case.
Accused No. 2 in the rape case, Jesus Chowdhury, is staying in Andarkilla area. Based on the information, a team of RAB conducted a raid in the area and arrested the accused Jishu Chowdhury.
