BADC farmers demand fair price of seeds

Contracted farmers of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) formed a human chain demanding fair price of paddy seeds in Chuadanga on Thursday.

About 2,000 contract growers joined the programme held on the premises of BADC office in the district demanding to set the price of Aman paddy at Tk 45 per kg.

The farmers formed the human chain following a demonstration on the BADC premises chanting slogans. Mohammad Salauddin and Md. Jillur Rashid, respectively the President and General Secretary of BADC ChuktiboddhoChashi Forum, Chuadanga addressed the programme among others. 

Mohammad Salauddin, president of the forum said, “It costs around Tk 44 to produce 1 kg of seeds but BADC authorityhas set the price at Tk 38”.

“Therefore, the growers have been facing a loss”, he added urging upon the concerned authority to take step to re-fix the price.

BADC growers have been demanding to raise the price in many regions of the country. Earlier on Wednesday, farmers of Jamalpur also said they are being deprived of the fair prices of seeds, in a rally held in front of theBADC complex at Fulbaria in the district, reported our Jamlpur Correspondent.
