BADC allocates 3,248 tonnes of Boro seeds for farmers in five districts

Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) has allocated 3,248. 583 metric tonnes of Boro seeds for farmers of five districts of Rangpur region during the ensuing Boro season. At the same time, the price of High Yield Variety of paddy seed has been decreased to Tk. 13 per kilogramme. 

According to sources of Deputy Director (Seed marketing), BADC office in Rangpur, this year seeds of HYV BR-14,16, BRRI-28, 29, 50,58, 74,81,84, Nerika and hybrid SL-8 varieties have been released and allocated for the farmers. Each kiligramme of  HYV seed will be sold at Tk, 37 to the farmers as against Tk, 50 last year but the price of hybrid seed will be the same as in the last year at Tk. 230 per kilogramme.

This year, among 3,248 metric tonnes of boro seeds allocated in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Kurigram and Lalmonirhat, 365.200 metric tonnes will be sold through 13 sales centres of BADC to the farmers. Rest 2,883 metric tonnes of seed will be sold through 732 registered seed dealers.

AHM Yeasir, President of BADC Fertiliser and Seed Dealers Association, Rangpur informed, the government has decreased the price of seed this year. He hoped, the farmers would become interested to sow BADC supplied paddy seed this year.

Jahangir Alam, General Secretary of the organisation informed, farmers usually sow boro seeds in their field during last of November and early December. He hoped dealers will draw their allocated seeds in due time.

Dr. Sultanul Alam, Deputy Director ( Seed Marketing) informed, this year the government has decreased the price of seed and he hoped no seed will remain unsold this year.

Mohammad Ali, Additional Director of Rangpur Agriculture Extension Department, informed a target has been fixed to produce  21,76,297 metric tonnes of boro rice  through cultivating 5,03,450 hectares of land during the boro season in the region. For cultivation of each hectare of land, 20 kilogrammes of seed will be required, he added.
