Azharul Islam becomes MD of WZPDCL

According to the decision of the board of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) and the directions of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (MPEMR), Engr Md Azharul Islam has been appointed as the Managing Director of WZPDCL.

When he arrived in Khulna on September 26 after paying homage at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj, he was warmly greeted by WZPDCL.

Earlier, on September 21, he submitted his joining letter to WZPDCL Chairman and Additional Secretary (Coordination) of MPEMR Mr Selim Abed and took over as Managing Director from additional acting Managing Director Mr Ratan Kumar Debnath.

Engr Md Azharul Islam started his career on April 13, 1983 as Assistant Engineer of Power Development Board (PDB). Subsequently, he was promoted to various posts and successfully served as Additional Chief Engineer and Chief Engineer in Chittagong South Zone from May 29, 2015 to January 11, 2017.

Thereafter, from January 12, 2017 to January 30, 2020, he served as a member (Planning and Development) of PDB. He also served as the Executive Director (P&D) at Coal Power Generation Company from September 17, 2020 to September 20, 2021.

Md Azharul Islam was born in a noble Muslim family in Sathia, Pabna district. He passed SSC from Bera BB High School in 1975 and HSC from Dhaka College in 1977. Then, in 1982, he obtained BSc Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
