‘Awareness must for city dwellers to prevent dengue’

CCC Acting Mayor organized rallies, distributed leaflets to school students, shops, houses and visited roof gardens of various houses in the local residential area for public awareness.

Chattogram City Corporation Acting Mayor Afroza Kalam inaugurated the Mashak Nidhne Crash Program in Halishahar Ward on Tuesday morning.

 She said, integrated mosquito control measures to prevent dengue is environmental management.  Common people should be made aware of the places where Aedes mosquitoes breed around us so that Aedes mosquitoes cannot breed and city dwellers should be aware.  Due to weather conditions, mosquito infestation has increased in the city.  Through this CRUSH program, every ward will be cleared of bushes and the stagnant water in drains will be sprayed with mosquito breeding.  In addition to the crush program, CCC will continue to run daily mosquito repellent sprays as part of regular operations.  He said this while inaugurating the integrated pest control program of North-Central Halishahar Munir Nagar Ward.

CCC ward Councilor Abdul Mannan, Executive Magistrate Marufa Begum Neli, Chief Cleaning Officer and Mayor's Private Secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem, Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer Morshedul Alam Chowdhury and other local people were present.

CCC acting Mayor said that clean and closed water is a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes.  Therefore, everyone should take care that water does not accumulate for more than three days in tin shells, flower tubs, roof gardens, refrigerator trays, AC water, abandoned tires, plastic bottles and water drums around the house.  Acting mayor said dengue is a viral disease.  Dengue outbreaks usually peak between July and October during the monsoon.

 At present, if anyone shows symptoms of fever or dengue, he advised to immediately seek medical help at CCC General Hospital and Urban Health Center.  Control dengue effectively, the city corporation along with city dwellers should be aware of dengue disease prevention.  In the meantime, CCC has started campaigning in different residential areas including rooftop gardens, under construction buildings through miking, distribution of leaflets and mobile courts with the aim of creating public awareness.  The acting mayor sought the cooperation of the city residents.
