Aware people on hospitals’ social services: Speakers

Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi on Thursday underscored the need for making people aware about the social service activities of the hospitals under which poor patients can get financial support from the government for treatment of many complicated diseases.

Every hospital at divisional, district and upazila level hospitals has social service activities to extend healthcare services to the poor patients but many people have no idea about those activities, they said at a seminar on Thursday, reports BSS.

Steps should be taken to reach the messages related to the service delivery activities of the hospitals to the target group of patients so that that people can derive total benefits of those service oriented scheme of the government.

Hospital Social Service Office and Divisional Office of Department of Social Services (DSS) jointly organized the seminar on ‘Intensification of Hospital Social Service Activities and Enhancement of Patients Welfare Fund: Present Situation and Future Way-out’ at Nanking Darbar Hall in the city.

Local parliament member Fazley Hossain Badsha attended and addressed the seminar as chief guest with DSS Divisional Director Dr Razzaqul Islam in the chair.

Director of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital Brigadier General Jamilur Rahman, Principal of Barind Medical College and Hospital Prof B K Dam and DSS Deputy Director Rashedul Kabir also spoke on the occasion.

Lawmaker Badsha said the present government has been extending financial support to the poor patients suffering from various complicated diseases like kidney ailment, liver cirrhosis, cardiac diseases, cancer and paralysis through the Department of Social Services (DSS).

The present government has been striving for making a poverty-free country through successful implementation of the social safety net (SSN) programs. As well the government has attached importance to various steps for the welfare of the poor coming to hospitals for healthcare services, he said.

Badsha also stressed the need for forging coordination among the service delivery public and private agencies and removing all lapses to facilitate the vulnerable people getting services at the time of their needs.

The safety net programmes can play major role in eradicating poverty through ensuring its proper planning and effective implementation, he said.
