The ruling Awami League’s international affairs wing on Sunday briefed Dhaka-based diplomats on the just-concluded Dhaka City Corporation elections. Representatives of around 30 foreign missions including the United States, Germany, Italy and India attended the briefing held at the Lakeshore Hotel.

Prime Minister's Adviser on Political Affairs HT Imam, International affairs Sub-Committee Chairman Ambassador Mohammad Zamir, and Awami League's International Affairs Secretary Shammi Ahmed briefed them and replied to their queries.

Awami League candidates won the both city elections –Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh at Dhaka South and Atiqul Islam at Dhaka North - held on Saturday.

Shammi Ahmed highlighted the use of EVM for the first time in the entire voting, among others. She said due to the EVMs, the voting was flawless. "Introduction of EVMs has ended chances of manipulations in elections," she said. Prime Minister's Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam said BNP has become a party of 'complaining door-to-door'.

He also sought diplomats support for the upcoming ‘Mujib Barsha’ – the birth centenary celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from March 17, 2020 to March 17, 2021.
