An auto rickshaw driver was stabbed to death by a snatcher in Akhpara area under Sadar upazila of Kishoreganj on Sunday.
Locals nabbed the snatcher and handed him over to the police after the incident. The deceased was identified as Manik, resident of Kashorarchar village under Mohinanda union of Sadar upazila. According to police and local sources, one of the snatchers hired an auto rickshaw from Jalalpur Bazar of Sadar Upazila and went to a secluded place in Akhpara area and tried to snatch the auto rickshaw by threatening the driver Manik.
When the driver resisted, the snatcher started stabbing him in the abdomen and thigh. The snatcher tried to run away when the people around them came forward.
The arrestee was identified as Shamim is the son of Abdul Rashid of Majumdarpara village in Maijkhapan union of Sadar upazila. The driver died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Kishoreganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakar Siddique said, “Initially it seemed that there was only one snatcher. Details will be known after investigation and legal action will be taken then.”
