Authorities planting Keora saplings on new Char near Hatiya

Noakhali Forest Department has planted Keora tree saplings on the newly rising char at Meghna River in Hatiyar upazila of Noakhali.

Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests and Sustainable Forests and Livelihoods (SUFAL) Project Director Govinda Roy planted Keora saplings on a newly char rises on Meghna River northeast of Hatiyar Nalchira on Saturday.

About 22.20 lakh Keora saplings will be planted in this new char in 2021-22 financial year, said Divisional Forest Officer Md. Farid Mia.

SUFAL director Govinda Roy said, “The mangrove garden would serve as a coastal green bestney in the future to protect the lives and property of the people of the coast from catastrophic cyclones and tidal surges. Bangladesh's land will increase as well as enrich the coastal biodiversity.”

Noakhali Assistant Forest Conservator Kazi Tariqur Rahman, Laxmipur Assistant Forest Conservator Firoz Alam Chowdhury, Hatiyar Nalchira Range Officer Reich Uddin, Habibia Range Officer Nahid Hasan were present on the occasion.
