Published : 24 Oct 2024 10:25 PM

Australia will be the “Country of Focus” at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), taking place in Goa from November 20 to 28, 2024. This recognition celebrates the significant contributions of Australian cinema to the global film industry, showcasing its rich storytelling traditions and innovative techniques.

The "Country of Focus" segment at IFFI highlights the best contemporary films from a featured country. Australia’s diverse culture and renowned filmmakers have greatly influenced cinema worldwide. This event also reflects the growing collaboration between the Indian and Australian film industries.

IFFI will present seven Australian films, offering a mix of genres, including acclaimed dramas, documentaries, thrillers, and comedies. These films will represent Australia’s unique cultural identity and feature stories from both indigenous and contemporary communities.

Additionally, the Film Bazaar at IFFI, which is the largest South Asian film market, will have strong Australian participation. A delegation from Screen Australia, State Screen Commissions, and Ausfilm will showcase Australian filming locations and incentives at a special exhibition area. Six producers will also receive funding from the Australian government to attend the Bazaar and explore co-production opportunities.

A highlight of the Film Bazaar will be a special Co-production Day, allowing filmmakers from both countries to network. The Australian project “Home Before Night” has been selected as an official entry in the Co-Production Market.

Furthermore, there will be a panel discussion focusing on co-production opportunities between India and Australia, featuring industry experts. A major attraction will be a Cinematography Master Class led by Academy Award-winning cinematographer John Seale, who will share his artistic journey and technical insights with aspiring filmmakers.
