ATU nabs ABT militant from Dhaka

Anti-Terrorism Unit of Bangladesh Police on Saturday arrested a publisher of banned Islamist terrorist outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team from the capital Dhaka.

Talking to the Bangladesh Post on Saturday, SP Mohammad Aslam Khan, head of  ATU’s Media and Awareness Wing, confirmed it.

He was identified as Md Habibur Rahman alias Shamim, 32. He is the owner of Al Rehab Publications. He hails from Mohonpur Nijpara village under Araihazar Upazila of Narayanganj.

SP Aslam said that getting secret information, a team of ATU, the specialized unit to combat militancy, raided at Islamia Market at Banglabazar area under Sutrapur Police Station of Dhaka Metropolitan area on Saturday afternoon.

He was arrested as per information from the militants who were arrested after a special drive in Mymensing on September 16.

ATU personnel also seized huge numbers of Jihadist publication from his possession.

According to the ATU sources, Habib started his Al Rehab Publication in 2016. Arrested ATU’s spiritual leader Mufti Jasimuddin Rahamani’s close associate Firoz had given him some books of Mufti Jashimuddin to publish. He later published these radical books and was selling those. At one stage, he was also inspired and joined in the militant outfit. He also became close with some ABT leaders.

He was circulating many other radical publications and video materials in a bid to redicalise youths for joining in militancy.

A case was filed and he was produced before a Dhaka Court seeking a seven day remand, said SP Aslam Khan.
