A 55-year-old man was arrested as he allegedly attempted to violate three children at Hapania village at Lalpur upazila in Natore on Monday evening.
The accused was identified as Jamat Ali, son of Yat Ali of the same village. He is a tea-stall owner in the area.
Inspector (Investigation) of Lalpur Police Station Abu Siddique confirmed the matter.
The police official and locals said that the three children were returning home through the front of Jamat Ali's tea stall in the evening. At that time, Jamat Ali lured them by offering chocolate and took them to the next room. At the time, he started abusing them sexually.
Hearing the children screaming, people around rushed to the spot and caught Jamat Ali after seeing him in an unpleasant condition. The angry mob tied Jamat Ali to a tree after mass beating. Later, they informed the police. Upon receiving the news, police detained Jamat Ali from the spot and brought him to the police station.
Inspector Abu Siddique further said that the accused has been arrested and sent to jail through the court. However, the families of the three victims had not lodged a complaint till filing of the report.
