Chattogram Journalist Union (CUJ) member, Jamuna TV reporter Al Amin Shikdar and cameraperson Asaduzzaman Limon, CUJ has submitted a memorandum to the Law Minister demanding disciplinary action and cancellation of the Bar Council certificate against the lawyers involved in the attack.
The leaders of the organization gave this memorandum through Chattogram District Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman on Monday afternoon. Journalist leaders said that journalists have to travel to the court building area regularly to fulfill their professional duties and collect news. But on August 17, some unruly lawyers attacked Yamuna TV reporter Al Amin Sikder and cameraperson Syed Asaduzzaman Limon in the court building area while performing their professional duties.
Such heinous behaviour is completely unexpected and uncalled for. Through this incident, they smeared the legal profession.
Chattogram journalist society is extremely angry with their behavior. By reviewing the photos and video footage of the incident, the lawyers involved in the attack can be easily identified.
To protect the dignity of the judiciary and the legal profession and to ensure the safety of journalists in the performance of their professional duties, there is a need for exemplary punishment of the errant lawyers involved in the incident.
In the memorandum, two lawyers accused of criminal offenses involved in the incident were identified and demanded the cancellation of their Bar Council charters. At the same time, they are requested to take appropriate criminal action against them for violating the law by being defenders of the law.
