Artisans busy making comforters in Jibannagar

With the arrival of winter, the plasterers get busy. As there is not much work at other times of the year, they spend a lot of idle time. When winter is coming in the month of Kartika, they open their shops in full swing. The artisans of making Lep-Toshak sit with cloth, cotton cloth.

Before the winter sets in, there is a rush to make Lep Toshka in different village areas of Jibannagar Upazila of Chuadanga. Buyers are starting to crowd the paint shops. And so the craftsmen are spending a very busy time in making the coating.

Chuadanga district always has a bit more winters. Winter has already started here. In the evening, you have to put on warm clothes. As a result, the people of this upazila are preparing for the winter in full swing.

It can be seen from the surface, the owners and workers of various small and large lep-tosh making shops in the agricultural market area of Jibannagar upazila, the dhunaikars are now spending their time very busy in cotton and lep-tosh sewing. The traffic of customers is also increasing in coating shops. Many people are also ordering coating.

Dhanak-artisan Ajibur Rahman said that as the day progresses, the people of different villages, including the upazila sadar, are making new coatings as they fear that the severity of winter will increase. While sales are less during other times of the year, sales increase several times during the winter season. He said that he is getting an average of 15-20 orders for coating every day.

Jahurul Haque, a coating-toshak trader in Jibannagar town said, I am getting a lot of orders for the production of coating-toshaks from the first week of this month. I have left extra technicians to handle the work. We are trying to deliver products to customers on time. In addition to taking orders, I have made some covers, pillows, cushions in advance. We sell these to the buyers as readymades.

He said, as wages, pillows are being taken at the rate of 30 taka per piece, covers from 300 taka to 400 taka, mattress from 400 taka to 500 taka.

Artisan Mizanur Rahman said that the demands of artisans have also increased due to the increase in workload. Now I am getting a salary of 1000 taka per day. If the severity of winter increases, the workload will increase and the wages will also increase.
