ARSA commander arrested in Cox’s Bazar

Members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested an ARSA commander along with a G3 rifle and 10 rounds of bullet after conducting a drive at Ukhiya Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

The arrestee was identified as Nurul Islam, son of Golam Hossain, resident of block-A in Rohingya camp no. 13. 

APBn-8 said that the arrestee is a commander of ARSA, a terrorist group of Myanmar.

The ARSA commander was arrested with arms from Tajnimarkhola Rohingya camp no.13 under Palankhali in Ukhiya upazila on Thursday night.

Commander of APBn-8, Additional DIG Md Amir Zafar, said in a press release that based on a secret information, police knew that a terrorist group from ARSA was hiding in a secret den in camp no. 13. Acting on the tip-off, they conducted a drive at the said location in Tajnimarkhola Rohingya camp. Members of APBn arrested ARSA commander Nurul Islam at that time. Later, they searched the place and recovered a foreign G3 rifle and 10 rounds of bullet from there.

Md Amir Zafar said members of the terrorist group were planning new act of sabotage led by the ARSA commander. The police were conducting drive to detain the members of the terrorist group.

The arrested Nurul Islam was handed over to Ukhiya police station. A case was filed with the police station in this connection.
