Army working to protect independence, sovereignty: Gen Shafiuddin

Army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed said that the army is always working to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country with the support of the people of the country. Army stands by the helpless, distressed and cold people as part of its public welfare work during army winter training. In this continuation, the Bangladesh Army has stood by the helpless, distressed and poor people of Cox's Bazar region. Bangladesh Army participated in this humanitarian program of distribution of winter clothes among the helpless, poor and low income people in the training area.

The army chief said the above during the winter training area of Ramu 10 Infantry Division of Cox's Bazar on Saturday (December 31) after distributing winter clothes and visiting the army-run medical camp in Ukhia Inani area of Cox's Bazar.

During the training visit, he observed various tactical training activities in preparation for wartime. He said that besides protecting the independence, sovereignty and integrity of the country, the Bangladesh Army has gained fame and great reputation by carrying out various country-building activities, dealing with national disasters and peacekeeping activities in the international environment. He instructed the soldiers to be ready to face the challenges of the 21st century by acquiring skills through modern and up-to-date training while keeping the morale high. At that time, General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Area Commander Cox's Bazar Area Major General Md. Fakhrul Ahsan, senior army officers Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Muhammad Shaheen Imran were present.

At this time, the army chief spoke to the local people who had come to take medical treatment and safety cloths and inquired. When the army chief was approached, the local common people expressed their gratitude to the army chief.

In Inani of Ukhia Upazila, the army chief distributed winter clothes among thousands of helpless and distressed families under the management of 10 infantry division of Bangladesh Army. Later he visited the medical camp run by the army.

Apart from distribution of winter clothes, Bangladesh Army is conducting free-medical campaign program to provide medical services to helpless, distressed and poor people in winter training areas. As part of this program, treatment of various chronic diseases, medical care and special counseling of pregnant-maternal mothers and treatment of cataract, chalazion and long-sightedness by experienced ophthalmologists and distribution of free medicines are provided. In this day-long medical campaign, more than two thousand patients were given treatment and medicines.
