The 10th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army has stood by poor people in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar district by providing relief materials and other support to help ease sufferings of the low-income people during the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

The government has announced a strict shutdown across the country from July 1 to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Against this backdrop, the 10th Infantry Division came forward to help the poor people. The Army personnel of the division are also cutting back on their rations and distributing the essentials among poor people. It was known that the division of the Bangladesh Army has been continuing its overall activities in Cox's Bazar district and several upazilas of Chattogram to assist the civilian administration. It has also been continuing various programmes, including raising public awareness and distribution food items among unemployed, destitute and helpless people.

As part of their continuous programmes, members of the 10th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army delivered relief to poor people in Cox’s Bazar on Friday (July 9). The relief operation covered a total of 1,000 families in the remote areas of Cox’s Bazar Sadar and Ramu upazilas of the district. Members of Ramu cantonment provided the relief items.

On Saturday (July 10), members of the Ramu cantonment also provided relief items to a total of 750 poor families in Chattogram district, while 250 unemployed people in Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar.

An Army member said that they handed over the relief items to the helpless people, who have become unemployed following Covid-19 situation, by saving their ration items, including rice, potato, onion and oil.

The local people have appreciated this great initiative of the army. “We are very happy with Army for their support,” said poor woman of Cox’s Bazar.  It can be mentioned that the 10th Infantry Division of Bangladesh was deployed in Cox's Bazar and some upazilas of Chattogram upazilas in 2020. The division has been conducting regular patrols, building mass awareness against Covid-19 and distributing face masks and hand sanitizers and food items.
