UNB, Narail: A team of Bangladesh Army arrested two men and seized a huge quantity of local firearms, foreign knives, alcohol and stolen mobile phone sets from a grocery at a market in Narail Sadar upazila on Wednesday.

The arrestees are Pinak Kundu, 36, son of Nikhil Kundu of Mushuria village and Shubho Biswas, 21, son of Subas Biswas of Benahati village, both in Narail Sadar.

A police team joined the army during the raid, said officer-in-charge of Narail Sadar Station Md Sajedul Islam.

The army-led operation began at 8pm Wednesday and continued until 1am at Rupganj Bazar in the upazila when they recovered 40 stolen mobile phones, five bottles of foreign liquor, nine beer cans, 18 foreign knives, 19 local firearms, and three hockey sticks.

The shop, owned by Polash Kundu of Lokkhi Bhandar, had allegedly been used for years to trade drugs and local weapons under the guise of grocery business.

Acting on secret information, the army raided the shop but the shop owner managed to flee.

The arrestees and seized items were handed over to Narail Sadar Police for further action.
